FOTD: Black Smokey Eyes and Nude Matte Lips

FOTD: Black Smokey Eyes and Nude Matte Lips

Hi guys!

Have I ever told you that smokey eye is my biggest makeup obsession?

Remember when the entire beauty world was going gaga over this huge smokey eye trend couple of years back? That is exactly when I started growing my interest in beauty and makeup. As a newbie makeupista, I used to mess up with smokey eye as I was not aware of the techniques and importance of using right tools!

Now, I believe I have improved my skills to some extent after years of practice and watching tons of tutorials! So in this post I will share a soft black smokey eye and muted lips look! I have not gone for an intense gothic black smoked out eye makeup as I have worn it for a day time event. If you follow me on Instagram then you might know the full story! If you don’t then please give me a follow over there, I promise you won’t be disappointed ;)

So let’s get started with the steps, guys!!!

Base Makeup:

Some people like to do eye makeup first before the base, especially while doing heavy eyes! I do the reverse. I always start with my base first. For smokey eye, you need to have flawless skin to make the intensity of the eye makeup pop. So I have gone for a full coverage base here.

Tool used: Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

Eye Makeup:

Step 1:

I have used black gel liner as base. It basically makes the shadow to stick to the skin and also brings out the true intense color from it.

Product used: Maybelline lasting drama gel liner
Tool used: Maybelline brush which comes with the liner

Step 2:

I did not apply the gel liner neatly as I have smudged it all over my lids in this step.

Tool used: Colorbar eyeshadow blending brush

Step 3:

Next I have patted black eyeshadow on top of the gel liner, making sure the shdow does not go above my crease.

Tool used: Vega Eye shadow brush. Any flat eyeshadow brush will do. You can even use fingertips if you don’t own that.

Step 4:

I blended the black shadow with some matte brown shadow along my crease line to eliminate harsh edges and create a smooth color transition between the black shadow and my skin above the crease.

Product used: Maybelline ‘The Nudes’ palette
Tool used: crease brush from EmaxDesigns brush kit. Any fluffy brush will do.

Step 5:

I applied black kohl along the lower waterline and smudged it with the same matte brown shadow.

Product used: Lakme eyeconic kajal in black
Tool Used: Colorbar smudge brush

As a final touch, I used a coat of  Maybelline hyper curl mascara to give my lashes curl and volume. Dramatic lashes look beautiful with smokey eyes. But since it was day time, I did not go overboard with mascara. But you can always do multiple coats of mascara or even wear false lashes.

Ohh yeah, I have used Lakme 9 to 5 blush ‘Ginger Surprise’ as a brow bone highlighter here. It has good amount of golden sheen and coordinates very well with the brown used along the crease line!

Lips are very important when we do bold eye makeup. The trick is to wear subtle lips so that the focus remains on the eyes. I have worn Lakme 9 to 5 lipcolor in the shade ‘Coffee Command’ which is a perfect MLBB shade for my complexion! And it is matte!
